# Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF)

The **Internet Engineering Task Force (**[**IETF**](https://www.ietf.org/)**)** is a key organization involved in the development of technical standards and protocols – the basic traffic rules of the Internet that define how information travels across the network, and who can connect to whom and to what content. Housed within the Internet Society, the work of IETF encompasses protocols that range from Internet Protocol (IP), the basic language that enables two devices to communicate, to applications like email.
