# Global Network Initiative (GNI) Launched in 2008, the Global Network Initiative **(**[**GNI**](https://globalnetworkinitiative.org)**)** is a multi-stakeholder initiative that helps companies respect freedom of expression and privacy rights when faced with government pressure to hand over user data, remove content, or restrict communications.
