When journalism dies, so does democracy: Advocating for funding to support independent media and journalism.

This policy meeting aims to bring together media development and journalism support organisations to discuss how our community can work together to advocate for immediate, medium, and long-term funding and resources to strengthen media freedom and pluralism, journalist safety, and media development.

Based on the updates from GFMD’s Funding Crisis Coordination Working Group Meetings, the discussion will focus on urgent advocacy efforts to respond to the current funding crisis triggered by the US funding freeze, while also discussing strategies for sustained engagement with key initiatives, such as the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4), the EU's Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) negotiations. Participants will strategise on turning advocacy efforts into concrete policy changes, identifying priorities, topline messages, data and evidence, as well as optimal channels to effectively engage with key policymakers and donors.
