# Transparency and targeting of political advertising

The European Commission introduced a legislative proposal as part of its European Democracy Action Plan to enhance transparency in political advertising alongside online advertising regulations. The proposal, presented in November 2021, builds upon previous initiatives for political advertising transparency. It intends to establish uniform rules for labelling political ads, disclosing sponsors, payment details, and affiliations with elections. The proposal also addresses targeting and amplification techniques, banning some and mandating clear communication of their use.
